I need your opinion!

So I am having a little "trouble" with whether or not a name is a word or not. There is a story that goes along with it, but I will tell you all about after I get some answers! So let me know what you either know or think!!

Is there a specific name you're asking about or are you asking about names in general? If you're asking about names in general, then, yes they are words (I'm not sure what else they would be). Every name (whether or not it is in the dictionary or even existed before the parent came up with it) would fall into the category of a proper noun.

If you're talking Scrabble or most other word games, then usually names are banned from the "word" catagory. Other than that, I would tend to agree with Ryan. If its in terms of naming your little girl something that would otherwise not be a name, Apple, for example (courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow) then I think a word can be a name and I guess that would imply that a name can be a word. Because as Ryan said, a name, once it has been designated as such, becomes a proper noun and nouns are words. And that's all I've got to say about that! (Because if I say any more I'm going to really confuse myself!)
